SUKHDEV SINGH
- He was born on 22nd April 1955 at Village Mianpur, District Amritsar, Punjab. He acquired his Primary Education at his native place and High School in a nearby Village Dhand. He studied for Pre-University Course in Arts at Baba Budha College, Bir Sahib (Thatta), Amritsar under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab. Graduated in Arts from Dr. Zakir, Hussain College, University of Delhi and LL.B. from Law Centre – 1 and obtained a Master of Laws from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 1983. Shri Sukhdev Singh was awarded Merit Certificates for securing 1st position in Punjabi and 2nd position in Aggregate and Civics in Pre-University Arts Class by Baba Budha College, Bir Sahib (Thatta), Amritsar. Was awarded Merit Certificate also by the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi for securing 2nd position in LL.M. V Term Examination. Wrote dissertation for the award of the degree of Master of Laws on “Promissory Estoppel against the Administrative Authorities in India.” He joined Delhi Judicial Service in the year 1985 and worked on both Civil and Criminal sides. He was promoted to the Delhi Higher Judicial Service in the year 2000. As a member of Delhi Higher Judicial Service, he has worked as Additional District & Sessions Judge in several capacities on original and appellate jurisdiction both of civil and criminal sides. He presided over special courts, like Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Labour Court, Matrimonial Court, and Special Court under the Electricity Act. He has imparted training to the newly recruited Judicial Officers of Delhi Judicial Service, Delhi Higher Judicial Service, and of other states.
- During his tenure, he also worked on the Administrative side. He was appointed Chairman/Member of various committees such as Vigilance Committee, Building Maintenance Committee, Purchase Committee Departmental Promotion Committee, Car Scooter Parking Committee, Mobile Committee, certified copies supply committee. He was appointed Controlling Officer, Leave Sanctioning Authority of Judicial Officers, Pool Cars. Worked as First Appellate Authority of East District under RTI Act. He also worked as Officer-in-Charge of Judicial and General Branch. He worked as Chairman/Co-Chairman of National Lok Adalats and presided over as Judge, Lok Adalat organized by Delhi Legal Aid Services Authority from time to time. He is a trained Judicial Mediator and worked as Mediator. He has attended various national and international seminars and conferences. He is the author of three books viz; (i) Cognizance of Offences by Criminal Courts (2013); (ii) Hindu Law of Marriage and Divorce and (iii) MCQ for Delhi Judicial Services Examination. After superannuation in the year 2015, he has worked as President of Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (East), Govt. of NCT of Delhi till April 2020.
- He is actively associating with SIAACBC and assisting it by devoting his valuable time to perform his responsibilities and duties as Editor of AABC Law Reporter. He hopes that SIAACBC will emerge as an organisations, managed by highly qualified and vastly experienced persons to ameliorate the sufferings of poor, down trodden, disadvantageous and marginalized section of Indian Society in achieving good education, good health and getting dignity and living a life of true human beings.
