Narendra Molparia

IAS, Financial Commissioner, Delhi, (Retired)
  • He was born on 10th July, 1957 in Karol Bagh, Delhi in a poor family. His primary education took place in Municipal School. His teacher got him admitted to Ramjas Higher Secondary school where teachers helped him to complete his school education. He secured 16th rank in the then Delhi Board examinations and first position in the school. His extraordinary interest in economics and commerce took him to Shriram College of Commerce for B.Com (Hons.) He joined part time job in Bank of India, Chandni Chock Branch. Later he joined as full time Clerk in S.B.I. Parliament Branch. While in service he completed his Master’s Degree in Commerce from Delhi School of Economics. In 1980 he joined as P.O. in S.B.I. Satara Branch of Mumbai Circle. He joined I.A.S. on 25 August, 1988 on achieving 4th rank in All India General Merit. He was initially posted in ANINI in Arunacahal Pradesh. In October 1991, he was promoted as ADM but he was given independent charge of DM of Papum Pare District. In March 1994, he joined government of NCT of Delhi as Joint Secretary (Services). He served in various capacities such as J S (Finance), OSD of Delhi Chief Minister Ms. Sheila Dikshit, Labour Commissioner, Excise Commissioner, etc. On his transfer to Puduchery in 2002
  • He was appointed Secretary (Industries and Commerce) with additional Charge of Environment and Forest and Chairman of Pondicherry Pollution Control Committee.
  • In 2003, he joined the Government of India as Private Secretary to the then MOS (Telecommunication) Shri Ashok Pardhan. He was, on repatriation, posted as Labour Commissioner when he got the Welfare Board Setup for Construction Workers. He drafted the Delhi Escalators and Lifts Bill.
  • In January 2005 he was appointed Divisional Commissioner and Development Commissioner of Delhi. He was transferred to the post of Commissioner –cum Secretary, Industries, Government of Delhi on 9th October 2006. In March 2011 he was appointed as Administrator of Daman and Diu and Dadar and Nagar Haveli which is a Constitutional post equivalent to the Lt Governor. He also worked on the post of Member (Administration) in NHAI. He had opportunity to look after highways projects of NCT Delhi and Gujarat. He retired as Financial Commissioner, Delhi on July 31, 2017. Presently, he is holding another Constitutional post of State Election Commissioner for Union Territories of Andmans and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
